TENS
When dealing with TMD issues that require the bite to be changed or even when fabricating a new complete set of dentures, which often requires a bite change, the TENS unit/Myomonitor is used to deliver gentle, painless electrical stimulation to your muscles to help them achieve a relaxed state. Tense muscles suffer from restricted blood flow. Through the TENS unit, gentle stimulation relaxes the muscles and blood flow returns to these muscles. We know that tense muscles affect the cervical region of the neck and upper back as well as the muscles of mastication (chewing and biting). These tense muscles are known to have many adverse effects, including the affect on one’s occlusion/bite, jaw joint pain, jaw joint clicking or popping, facial pain, limited mouth opening, difficulty chewing and/or swallowing, neck and shoulder pain, headaches and migraine headaches, ringing in the ear/s, ear congestion, dizziness, and tingling finger tips. By achieving a relaxed muscular state, Dr. Ginder is best able to record your best bite position so your new bite will be in its optimal position.
